Lake Dunstan Walking & Cycle Trail

The day had come for us to try out the Lake Dunstan Trail. We headed to Clyde with a couple of friends in two vehicles. Leaving one vehicle in Clyde we all drove together to Bannockburn to park at the Pearson Road carpark. We decided to get on the trail early and departed just after 8am. The trail heads around Cornish Point and then into the Cromwell Gorge. There are some great signboards along the way full of history and interesting facts. The building and construction work is stunning with cantilever boardwalks that jut out around rock outcrops and bridges to navigate across large gullies. There are a couple of steep uphill sections that wind up with hairpin bends. This also means a few good downhill runs. The scenery is beautiful with views from the top all the way through the gorge. Near the end as we headed into Clyde we navigated our way through a mob of Merino sheep grazing the trail. The moving time of our ride was two and a quarter hours and with a total of 36kms covered. We did stop often for photos and to take in the scenery. After arriving in Clyde the boys left us at the Post Office Café and Bar while they drove back to grab the other vehicle. When they returned we all enjoyed a well deserved lunch and drinks.
