Internal Storage – Cupboards etc

We wanted to set up the internal storage spaces such as cupboards, pantry, fridge etc with compartments so items are less likely to move around during travel, especially when we are off-road. The first thing we did was line all cupboards and drawers with either anti-slip drawer liner or carpet. We measured up the various spaces and then went on a hunt for appropriate storage containers. We would have ideally liked to avoid plastic, however due to weight being a consideration and what is actually available we have ended up using plastic containers.

Bedroom - In the two wardrobe cupboards which we had a shelf added at build rather than a hanging rack we found 5 tubs from Bunnings to store clothing. The tubs can be removed for easy access and clothes sorted into various items. There is space at the side of the containers to roll up larger sweatshirts etc. Under our bed houses the Lithium battery system. There is a small space to store spare sheets, blankets etc.

Bathroom - In the bathroom medicine cabinet, we found two storage containers by Joseph Joseph purchased from Storage Box to organise toiletries and make-up. I am a fan of clutter free bench tops. In the bathroom lower cupboard, we have a plastic container to keep cleaners and hand soap etc while travelling. Our bathroom rubbish bin also fits in this cupboard while we are on the move.

Shower Cubicle - This is a space in the van that potentially is only used for taking a shower. We wanted to utilise the space for storage if need be. We added a couple of stick on Command hooks for hanging wet coats or clothes. We also removed two of the screws from the fan shroud and replaced them with cup hooks so we could hang an expandable peg hanger from Storage Box. This then gave us a great place to hang up the bathmat when not in use. We also hang our dish draining mat on it when it is wet. Underwear, socks etc could also be hung on the pegs to dry. To move it out the way when we are showering we have two cup hooks above the toilet on the extraction fan that we can hang it on. We have a flexible 25 litre bucket that we keep in the shower that we can use if need be and this is used to place the body wash and shower head in whilst travelling.

Kitchen - In our food cupboards we have smaller containers which have removable dividers which work great for jars etc. Boxes of food fit neatly alongside these. The fridge has plastic containers of various sizes on each shelf. In the freezer we store a container of ice as well as ice cube trays for making new ice. In the slim pull out pantry we found the black Sistema Ultra containers fit perfectly. We have some in three different sizes and use them for storing boxes of spices and our dry ingredients. On the bottom rack we bought a metal desk file box for storing the taller bottles of oils etc. The top drawer we use for large utensils, tinfoil, placemats etc. The other large drawer we have pots, pans, kettle and bowls.

In front of our sink we have a cupboard that is only 30mm deep which we have lined with carpet and attached two Key Tag holders for all our labelled keys.

Lower Cupboards - Any cupboards that are floor height we have lined with carpet for extra insulation and store heavier items such as alcohol. We also attached two Command adhesive broom holders to mount the floor Sabco microfibre mop.

Rear Club Lounge - We had the middle shelf removed at build so we can stack various sized Sistema containers for board games, maps and other miscellaneous items.
